I woke up with Shine On You Crazy Diamond stuck in my head, and by coincidence one of the first links I stumbled upon this morning while having breakfast was Syd Barrett’s First Trip , a short film that supposedly shows the founder of Pink Floyd having his first hallucinogenic experience: the first step on a path that would soon lead him to mental illness, his exclusion from the band, and to become the tragic muse for most of the masterpieces Pink Floyd released in the ’70s .
For fans of the band, this is a really emotional video. The fact that the events took place on the Gog Magog Hills (south of Cambridge), through which I have passed maybe a hundred times in my recent history, adds for me even more emotional weight.
